Preschool Apps (18 mo. to 2 years)

Chandler loves playing simple games on my phone when we are out and about or have a few moments to wait. I always like reading reviews before buying so I thought I would share a few we have been enjoying. These are a few in his folder right now.

 

-I Hear Ewe (free): This is a flip version of animal and transportation flashcards with sounds. Chandler likes swiping the different screens and hearing all the sounds.

-Bubbles ($0.99): I bought this one thinking it was different than it actually is. Chandler isn't too interested in this one. I thought the bubbles appeared and you had to pop them but you have to drag to get the bubbles and then pop them. I wouldn't recommend buying this one.

-My Horse (free): I really have no idea how this game works, Chandler just really likes watching the horse walk around.

-Fisher Price Shapes & Counting (free): This is another very simple app. There are two level choices. Level one has a shape floating around and as you touch it it changes to a different shape and tells you what kind of shape it is. Level two has a little keyboard and shapes that sing and dance. 

-Cute Baby Flashcards (free): These are flashcards you can scroll through: animals, transportation, things, colors, etc. He likes scrolling really fast and hearing how fast the guy can say the names. :) 

-Toca Monsters (free): I have found Toca Boca has some good interactive apps for little ones. This one has two monsters to choose from and you make them food. You choose something from the fridge and then have choices on how to cook it. Chandler likes to fry everything but you can also boil, blend, chop, and microwave. One of his favorites by far. 

-Toca Hair Xmas (free): This is a sample of the real app "Hair Salon". It has all the same features but you only have two client choices, Christmas Tree or Santa. Chandler likes this app because he can blow dry their hair and spray it different colors. There are lots of other fun styling tools as well. Aunt Ami would be proud! 

-Bumblebee Touchbook ($0.99) Kendra recommended this book to me because her littlest loves it so much. It is very simple but holds Chandler's attention. He likes how it reads the story to him and he can click on the words. It includes an interactive book as well as a short bee video.

-Monkey Lunchbox ($0.99): This one includes: counting, shapes, matching, and letters activities. At 20 months, Chandler can do all of them except for the dragging puzzle. I would spend the money buying this one again.

-Toca Doctor ($0.99): We recently go this one so I am not exactly sure what all it does but it highlights parts of the body that need a doctor and you try to help fix the problem. (ex: teeth are dirty and you swipe your finger across like you are brushing the teeth and they become clean)

-Ewe Can Count (free): This is also a new one we recently added. You can either choose to learn or quiz. When you click learn it shows animals and as you click on each one it counts. Quiz shows you a certain number of animals and you have to click the correct number (obviously this part is too hard still).

Not pictured: 
-Bugs Buttons ($2.99): We got this one because I thought Chandler would love watching the bugs and there are 18 different games to play but it is too hard for him to do independently. I might try it again around age 2 or so.

-You Tube (free): This is one of Chandler's favorite things to go to. I recently took it out of his folder because my ears had an kid song overload. These are his favorites:

Wordless Wednesday

April 2012 Recap

Some how another month has flown by.

Cody's parents were here the first weekend and we had lots of fun. We went to see the Aggies play Oklahoma in baseball, which was Audrey's first game and our first time at the new stadium. Over the weekend we also has lots of yummy food, sushi at Atami and steaks on the grill. It was also Easter weekend so we were able to celebrate Christ resurrection with our church family at New Life.

Cody and I finished up our Systematic Theology class on Tuesday nights. Cody also taught two of the eight classes. We went through the book Christian Beliefs by Wayne Grudem. This is a short book that covers many essentials of our faith. He goes through each topic in a very simple yet helpful way.

My parents, grandparents and aunt also visited and got to see/met Audrey. We mostly spent the day at home catching up with one another and playing/holding kids.

Cody spent many of his days off working hard building the shed for our backyard. It still has a little way to go but he was able to go from nothing to an actual building in a month. I realize more and more everyday how talented he is.

Chandler has started copying and talking so much more this month. It is fun to see him grow and watch his "wheels turning". He is very sweet with Audrey, always makes sure she has a blanket or paci and loves to kiss her little head. Audrey girl developed a raspy voice and a barking cough somehow toward the end of the month. We aren't sure exactly what happened, maybe strained vocal cords but our doctor said it is nothing to worry about.

We also helped host a Fiesta couples shower for two of our close friends, Joseph and Elizabeth who are getting married next weekend. They are both in our small group and we have loved being apart of their lives and watching a friendship grow into a beautiful relationship.

Audrey {2 months}

Sweet Audrey, You are tiny yet it feels like you are growing so fast. I love this picture because it shows how crazy you are with your hands these days. We think you are such a cute little cuddle bug. You love being swaddled to sleep and are usually content laying on a blanket watching your brother play. You have had a rough month eating, usually screaming at every feeding but hopefully that will change this month. We love you little one.

Schedule:
Her schedule still fluctuates depending on when she wakes up but this is a typical day for Audrey at 2 months. She is on the eat-awake-sleep schedule right now, eating for 30 minutes or so, awake for 30 minutes to a hour and asleep for the rest. Some nights her last feeding is around 9-10 and other nights I stay up and let her eat one more time, it really depends on our schedule. 

Sleeping: 
Usually she sleep about a hour after every feeding and 5-7 hours at night. 

Eating:
Every 3 hours or so during the day and when she wakes up at night. We are hoping she will begin eating better, we talked to her doctor at her 2 month appointment and he thinks she has reflux. 

Likes: 
Audrey likes being held and when you bounce her up and down. Her car seat is her favorite place to sleep. She also loves being in the Moby wrap. 

Dislikes: 
Little girl doesn't like it when her paci falls out, which is a very common occurrence. 

Milestones: 
She can lift her head when laying on the ground and starting to follow things with her eyes. She has also started smiling some which is super cute.

Instagram Favorites (April)

Audrey's Nursery

Both of our kids room plans have sort of been a work in progress with Audrey's unexpected early arrival. Cody graciously came home and painted Audrey's room while she was in the NICU. We hadn't official even decided on the wall color. It is very simple and girly. Maybe not everything I was envisioning but that's okay. We have a sweet and healthy little girl that we are so thankful for.

Most of everything was reused from Chandler's nursery but we just tried to make it more on the girly side.

Chandler {21 months}

Measurements:

I weighed him again on our home scale and somehow he lost weight, 22.4 lbs. We don't go back to the doctor for an official weight until August, 2 year check up. 

Clothes: 

-shirts: 12-18 shirts 

-shorts/pants: 12 month or 12-18 month 

-pjs: 18 month 

-shoe: size 5/6

Sleeping: 

-his nap(s) have varied so much this month, he is in between taking one and two, either 11-12:30 and 2:30-4:30 or he goes down right after lunch and sleeps from 1:30-4 or so  

-sleeps at night from 8:30pm-8:30am, sometimes 9am if he is only having one nap that day

Eating: 
-you never know about your eating, one day you like it and the next you don't, especially grapes
-you LOVE helping mommy add ingredients to your smoothie, maybe you just like eating pieces as you throw them in the blender

-you have been getting a rash again from food (we think maybe some kind of fruit, strawberries or mango)

New Tricks: 

-you have a made up sound for all my hair products depending on if they squirt or spray

-you like entertaining yourself in the mirror

Talking: 

-words you are saying; mama, dada, yes, ball, more, up ("pu"), please ("ease"), whoa (4/18), and oh (4/27), and no (4/30)

-you are still signing alot but trying to say words along with them

Teeth: 16, you have been chewing on everything lately and pointing to your ears and signing hurt so maybe your 2 year molars are working their way in 

Likes: 

-cars

-tools

-books

-lawn mower/blower

-all your stuffed animals

-goldfish and pretzels


Dislikes: 
-getting your diaper changed


Other Random Things:
-you are official weaned from the pacifier as of beginning of April (20 months)
-you love your walker again, especially running with the handle pushed down
-you want all things "in order", doors/lids closed, toys and books put back in proper location (or the first place you put it)
-you sign "apple" all the time to tell me you want to watch this phonics video, we haven't figured out why you are so obsessed with watching it
